Guy has spoken at the Phil Soc in the past, and will be returning this Autumn.
But next week you can hear him on Radio 4…. on the ‘You and Yours’ programme about the Positive Ageing courses  (http://positiveageing.org.uk/) that he developed with colleagues in Bristol. The interview will be broadcast on Monday 2nd July between 12-1pm, and is designed to tie in with a major new BBC One series on ageing.
Much of the interview focuses on the overwhelmingly negative attitudes that the general public has towards ageing. Guy sets out what he is doing in his Positive Ageing courses (http://positiveageing.org.uk/book-a-course/# ) to counteract this, and how we go about helping people to make the most of life after 60. Firstly, by busting many of the negative myths surrounding ageing. Secondly, by encouraging people to undertake some structured ‘life planning’ for this important phase of life. No other generation has had so much post retirement time and it is clear that we need to ‘re-invent’ this phase of life if people are to make the most of it. Thirdly, by taking people through some of the most effective personal change techniques to enable them to cultivate a more positive mental attitude. Research shows conclusively that a ‘glass half full’ perspective produces much better health, wellbeing and longevity.
